Lighting Rig

I have previously always used the goal post type lighting rig that is part of the dj stand/booth, but as time goes on I am finding this more and more difficult so decided to invest into a winched T bar stand.

I used it for the first time last Saturday and have to say was a lot easier. Although I have a bit of a OCD on this sort of thing I had to let it go a bit and put this to one side of the setup instead of being central, and have to say it made no difference to the display once the lights went down.

I have now attached several different types of lighting to the T bar unit which I couldn’t do with the previous type simply because I was unable to hoist the weight up manually, but with this it is a lot easier, it is slightly lower so have no problems with overreaching and of course the winch does the lifting work for me.

I will get a couple of pics to show this unit over the weekend.

Travelling Tuesday

Have a client consultation today at local coffee shop for a January 2018 Party.

Hoping to get a foot in the door for this popular hotel chain as the client works there and the party is for the staff and will be held there.

Then it’s a bit of food shopping followed by a trip to Harwich to collect a Turbo for the van, and with any luck it will be fixed and running again by, or over, the weekend in time for the hire van to go back on Monday 11th.

Xmas Party #1

1st of many Xmas Dinner Dances completed last night. Was great with a packed dancefloor all night.

Had to use some of the CFR knowledge as one of the ladies went over and landed face first into the tarmac. Hoping that one of her friends will let me know how she is in the next few days.

Apart from this one incident the night went well and looking forward to the next three parties there.

Interesting Wednesday

Tomorrow should be interesting. Myself and another DJ are going to the local DJ shop to get our new xmas lighting rigs, no idea what we will come away with but spending a few hours looking and getting demo’s of the latest lighting has got to be a good day in the making.

And then a quick drive to the Networking Event to bang heads with other wedding professionals and hoping to get some positive feedback concerning my websites.

Good Start to the week.

Monday started well with two new bookings for December bringing the total to 9 gigs.

Hoping to fill the 1st, 22nd, 23rd, 29th, 30th and any week days through December.

Then I got a call saying that the council have accepted responsibility for destroying my front lawn and breaking the mains water pipe in the process….work is supposed to start today to repair it all…I will be insisting that they also make good the lawn, got to be as it was, flat as a billiard table and a nice canadian grass…

Manic Monday

8am packed sandwiches and drinks for the long journey ahead…Blackburn.

235 miles there and the same back, total of 9 hours driving, and all because my heating packed up and although under guarantee they wouldn’t be able to do anything until sometime next week, I didn’t want to freeze to death so decided to deliver the faulty heater to them and at the same time purchase another heater.

Got back home eventually at 6.30pm and happy to report that I am sitting here all nice and toasty warm, so well worth the drive.

Now to sort out the burst mains water pipe….

Disaster Friday

Where do I start?

The heating was on and working perfectly well and it reached the set temperature and switched itself off, but as the temp dropped it tried to start up again but kept coming up with an error code.

So now it has to go back to the shop as it does have a 4 year warranty, but the shop is in Blackburn a 4.5 hour journey of just over 250 miles and that’s each way so the total would exceed 9 hours driving and covering some 500+ miles, but I have no choice, I can’t find a courier that can collect it before Tuesday for delivery on Wednesday or Thursday which would mean I wouldn’t get it back before the week after, cannot go 2 weeks without heating, so looks like I got myself a job to do on Monday….I will also purchase another one while I am there just in case.

Then a neighbour knocked on the door and asked about the swimming pool on the front lawn of which wasn’t there 3 days ago. Apparently the maintenance company that usually turns up with 3 or 4 bodies to cut the grass etc manually with petrol mowers etc, turned up 3 days ago with a ride on mower…a big one…somebody said it was the size of a tractor.

Consequently it drove over my postage stamp lawn and sunk, snapping the mains water pipe and then chewed up the lawn with the spinning wheels as he tried to get out of the big hole he created….now I am on a meter so this water that is gushing out is also totting up the £sssss on my next water bill.

Called the housing people , they didn’t want to know and said to contact Affinity Water, so I called the emergency line and was told that they wouldn’t come out as I have to call out a Private company and pay for it because they only act on anything that happens up to the water meter and from the meter to the house is all down to me….I explained that they put the meter in the middle of the road some 100 yards away from the house buried a metre down and covered in a drain cover so how can I be responsible for that when vehicles etc are always driving up and down over the area, but they were unsympathetic and hung up.

Back to the council and after a major row with all sorts of threats, they said they would send somebody out as an emergency, why they couldn’t have done this when I first called I will never know? Anyway, on the way to a gig this evening and the phone rang and it was somebody about the water, but not the right person, the council called an emergency plumber that of course does not deal with mains breaks, he eventually said he would send somebody out to confirm it was a mains leak then he will TRY get somebody out sometime next week….

In the meantime the water will still be flowing through my meter and filling the street and will end up with a huge bill. So I called the council again and said it was totally their responsibility as it was their maintenance team that drove the tractor over my lawn, which I do not understand why as it is Private? I told them that I have photographs of the lawn when it was flat as a billiard table and what it looks like now, a crater in the middle full with water and tyre tracks and chewed up grass, now mud,  and I also have witnesses to what happened….so they are in no doubt as to what my intentions are if they don’t do the repairs and give compensation just to pay the water bill until it gets repaired.

So you could say I have had a bit of a day of it and the icing on the cake was getting soaking wet loading up after the gig as it was chucking it down at 2am this morning.

Have a Birthday Party to do tomorrow, please let that go without any problems…..

Busy Thursday

Started this morning with a client consultation in Stevenage which went very well.

Once home I got around to using the turbo cleaner on the van, hopefully that will help the problem I had with the turbo and it will start with the engine now instead of taking 5 minutes to start up, will find out tomorrow when I have a gig to do in Stratford.

The new design business cards also arrived today unexpectedly, and I think they look really good having DJC Entertainment on one side and FotoPix on the other, here’s how they look…
